Denver, Colorado – November 14, 2006 – Academex Digital Publishing, makers of TekTrek™ Audio Tours, announced today that it has signed a letter of agreement with the World Heritage Alliance, an initiative of Expedia, Inc. and the United Nations Foundation to jointly promote and preserve World Heritage sites. With this signing, Academex Digital Publishing becomes an associate partner to the World Heritage Alliance.
Together, the partners will educate travelers and the travel industry about the importance of responsible tourism and World Heritage conservation; encourage community-based sustainable tourism development in and around World Heritage sites; and promote the beauty and significance of cultural and natural World Heritage sites around the globe.
Under the agreement, the World Heritage Alliance will support Academex’s research efforts at World Heritage sites, enriching the depth of information travelers will have with TekTrek™ Audio Tours. Additionally, customers purchasing a TekTrek™ Audio Tour will also receive information about how to visit and enjoy the world’s treasures in a responsible way. Academex will also commit a portion of its revenues to economic development projects in the communities surrounding World Heritage sites.
”Academex’s high quality audio tours, maps, and other tools will provide a powerful way for travelers to not only learn about the beauty of World Heritage sites, but also ways in which they can enrich their experiences by supporting local communities, protecting the environment, and enjoying local cultures,” said Erika Harms, Director of Sustainable Development at the United Nations Foundation. “Furthermore, we are thrilled that Academex is going one step further by donating a portion of its revenues to the Friends of World Heritage Fund, which will directly help local communities conserve their World Heritage sites.”
"At Expedia, we aim to inspire travelers to explore and experience more of the world's treasures," said Laura Piñones, director of community relations for Expedia. "Working with Academex through the World Heritage Alliance allows us to enhance our travelers’ experiences while also educating about sustainable tourism."
"Partnering with the World Heritage Alliance gives us an excellent resource for developing audio tour content for some of the world’s most amazing places. It also gives us an avenue to protect cultural treasures for generations to come” said Jeff Cozart, Founder of Academex Digital Publishing. “Academex is dedicated to positively impacting the communities where our tour programs are located.”
